Personality-dependent space use and movement might be crucially influencing ecological interactions, giving way to individual niche specialization. This new approach challenges classical niche theory with potentially great ecological consequences, but so far has only scarce empirical support. Here, we investigated if and how consistent inter-individual differences in behavior predict space use and movement patterns in free-ranging bank voles Myodes glareolus and thereby contribute to individual niche specialization. Individuals were captured and marked from three different subpopulations in North-East Germany. Inter-individual differences in boldness and exploration were quantified via repeated standardized tests directly in the field after capture. Bolder individuals occupied larger home ranges and core areas estimated via kernel density analyses , moved longer distances, spatially overlapped with fewer conspecifics and preferred different microhabitats based on vegetation cover compared to shyer individuals.
The pathogenetic mechanisms are based on an immunoglobulin E IgE -mediated hypersensitivity reaction. On the other hand, tear osmolarity has been suggested to be an index of ocular surface damage and inflammation. These data were the motive to investigate the levels of tear osmolarity in subjects with acute allergic rhinoconjuctivitis, before and after administration of artificial tears. Patients and Methods: Forty-five subjects with acute allergic rhinoconjuctivitis were randomly divided into three groups, based on the type of artificial tears that they received: Group A Thera tears , Group B Wet therapy and Group C Tears Naturale free. The eye drops were administered six times a day for 60 days and all subjects underwent grading of subjective symptoms and clinical examination at baseline and at the end of the treatment. Although the administration of artificial tears significantly ameliorated the symptoms and the ocular variables in all groups, the results were better in the first group. Tear osmolarity was strongly and negatively correlated with tear film breakup time BUT and Schirmer I test at 2 months.

The aim of this study was to evaluate tear osmolarity, tear film function, and ocular surface changes in patients with psoriasis. At a single center, 30 eyes of 30 patients with psoriasis group 1 and 30 eyes of 30 healthy individuals group 2 were evaluated using the Ocular Surface Disease Index OSDI questionnaire, Schirmer I test, tear film break-up time TBUT test, scoring of ocular surface fluorescein staining using a modified Oxford scale, and tear osmolarity measurement. TBUT was significantly lower in group 1 8. No significant differences were detected in Schirmer I test values between the groups The results of this study showed that psoriasis may influence tear osmolarity and tear film function. Patients with psoriasis showed tear hyperosmolarity and tear film dysfunction. Psoriasis is a skin disease characterized by chronic relapsing T-cell-mediated autoimmune inflammation that causes excessive proliferation of the underlying epidermis which ends with scaling.
