Written by Mike Stubbs 22 February A few months after launch, player numbers were low and the future looked a little bleak. Many questioned why Ubisoft was putting money behind the esports scene and assumed support would be dropped within a year. Now that idea seems ludicrous. The Six Invitational brought in millions of viewers from all over the world and was an event for the history books. Rainbow Six Siege currently has 27 million players. Developers Ubisoft have committed to at least another two years of supporting the esports scene.
Rainbow Six Siege has been out for a few years now, but it's one title that is definitely not lacking in content. With a constant fluctuation of new operators, maps, and missions, the strategic shooter is far from stale which means a sequel really isn't necessary at this point and time. In an ideal world tomorrow, we'd love players from every platform to be able to play together. We are approaching next-gen with the same spirit. He then touched on what next-gen support could look like with so much talk about the PlayStation 5 and Next Xbox recently, "We've been asking how can we make the player base of Siege today be able to migrate -- if they want to migrate, that is -- but also make this cheaper as much as possible or through backwards compatibility. The strength of any multiplayer game is the size of its community, so I do believe that we have to make every effort possible that when next gen comes in, they are treated as a high-end PC versus another PC. With Xbox and PlayStation playing more nicely together than they have in the past, who knows?
Rainbow Six Siege was one of the toughest review games I've had to score. While I absolutely love the intense competitive core of the multiplayer matches when both teams have strong communication and execution, the supporting content is sparse and server complications dampened my enthusiasm for the game. We recently discussed some of these issues with Siege creative director Xavier Marquis. The Rainbow Six trajectory changed quite a bit when Ubisoft walked away from Patriots. What, if anything, was preserved from that project and used in Siege?

Please share your forum-specific feedback and bug reports in the Forum Feedback community. Hi Please understand if I have responded, I dont have updated information. We will continue to send updates as we have them. Uplay is conceivably more complicated since there are multiple versions of the same game depending on whether the license was acquired on Uplay or Steam. Voctory is talking about a method to play Uplay games through the manage steam option and using some weird workarounds to get games to launch. In big picture mode, some uplay updating services don't start, making it technically possible. It's not something you wouldn't reasonably want to do with an online only game like Siege, and would only be possible if you own the license through Steam.
