"Speed of Life" is the first instrumental by David Bowie. It is the opening track for his album Low from "Speed of Life" introduces the Low album, and.

We've had a couple of bits on these pages regarding the forthcoming book of Sukita's Bowie photographs, Speed Of Life , since March. Subscribers to the Genesis Publications newsletter service will have received this e-mail on September 27th inviting them to pre-order Speed Of Life from a hidden microsite. That was followed on the 29th by this e-mail declaring that the Deluxe edition of Speed Of Life had been online for a mere 48 hours, yet more than half the copies had already been sold. This news obviously led to a bit of panic buying as the very next day, the chaps at Genesis e-mailed me to say that the Deluxe edition was now completely sold out! News of the signed Collector Edition copies will follow next month, along with information regarding a great little extra which we can't tell you about just yet as details are yet to be finalised. Both authors have signed the edition and written captions for images that hold a particular significance to them. Check out the Speed Of Life microsite for more pictures and information.

Add Genre. Add Styles. Add Moods. Add Themes. The blasting, aggressive song that begins David Bowie's landmark album Low, "Speed of Life" was notable among other things for being just about the first instrumental song that Bowie had written and recorded ever. It was also a signal of his collaboration with Brian Eno, showing that while the other musician had in his solo work begun his detailed exploration of ambient sound, he was not averse to creating some noise. With Tony Visconti once again proving his worth as Bowie's producer and a backing band willing to take some chances, the result is a weird, wonderful listen.

Speed of Life , was born out of a year collaboration between musician, actor and producer, David Bowie, and photographer and designer, Masayoshi Sukita. Meeting in the early seventies, by Sukita had photographed Bowie on nearly 20 separate occasions. A connection was formed such that over the ensuing decades Sukita's camera has never been far from the focal point of Bowie's life and work. I was immediately interested and intrigued. A limited edition of just 2, numbered copies, each is individually hand signed by David Bowie and Masayoshi Sukita, as well as the artists being involved in every element of the books design. Published in a limited edition of 2, books, the first copies of Speed of Life copies numbered 1 to are Deluxe copies.
